East Canyon, Utah
Elevation changes, crisp roads, switchback turns, science views, small reservoirs, and beautiful decreasing radius turns, you’re sure to have a good time
With East Canyon being just minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, it's accessible to all. With elevation changes, crisp roads, switchback turns, science views, small reservoirs, and beautiful decreasing radius turns, you’re sure to have a good time.
You can take I-80 to the east canyon exit or you can take Immigration Canyon directly to East Canyon. Emigration is a short canyon run, not the prettiest but it's a chill cool ride. The road does have a few bumps in it so be aware and on the far east side of Emigration the state has found it funny to place the worst section of tar snakes on the road. Make sure you follow the speed limit and or slower… it's a very short section but be careful!
A couple things along the way, once you arrive at the top there is a pull out to take in the views both of the west and the northeast. Be sure to stop and take a few pics. Also once you pass the east lake reservoir, you can continue straight on 65 to Henefer or take a left on 66 to continue along the lake and towards Morgan. I suggest the left on 66 to towards Morgan. This route has some nice turns and views. It will also take you right back to I-84 and on of my favorite spots to stop and grab a beer and something to eat.
From I-84 you can head west into Ogden or east and run back through Coalville and into the Park City/Heber area. Even though a big section of the Loop is highway, it’s beautiful all the same and a great ride.
Emigration Canyon Salt Lake City UT
With some of the best down home cooking in the state, it doesn't matter what time of day you arrive for good food. I prefer breakfast here outside on the patio. Make sure you show up before everyone else hangover has worn off as this is where they all go for food. I believe they are the oldest running restaurant in Utah as well.
With amazing food and some fantastic dessert, you really should plan your ride around stopping here. The wait on the weekends can be around 30-45 min but well worth it. Make sure you sit in the outside patio oasis. There will be a few surprises for you while you eat. Also a great place for date night if you're looking for something new and only 45 min out of Salt Lake City.
